Systematic of a wider lull in sales for the industry as a whole, veteran developer Sega is reportedly set to shed its Australian staff numbers.

Recent reports suggest that Sega Studios Australia is set to downsize its development team shedding as many as 40 of its full time staff. How many staff will remain at the studio after the shake up remains unknown. The Brisbane studio is one of the few remaining Australian AAA development studios left in the country.

Speaking to Develop, Sega commented that the down-sizing "will help us [Sega] deliver the highest quality official Olympic video game to date." Later adding: "The rise of digital gaming provides an opportunity to align the studio with a rapidly growing market at a time when the games industry is undergoing a significant transition."
