Come 2013, Frostbite powered games will require a 64-bit operating system, be it Windows 7 or the much anticipated Windows 8. That's according to DICE Frostbite 2 rendering architect Johan Andersson.
"We'll have Frostbite-powered games in 2013 that will require a 64-bit OS," tweeted Andersson.
Games from EA that currently run on Frostbite 2 include Battlefield 3, Need for Speed: The Run and the upcoming Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Moreover, the recently announced Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is also powered by it.
Presumably, titles like Dead Space 3 and, hopefully, Mirror's Edge 2 will run on Frostbite 2.
"If you are on 32-bit, great opportunity to upgrade to Windows 8," Andersson added. 64-bit operating systems are much more efficient with handling data as well as RAM usage, making them a better platform for high performance processes.
