Zenimax Online Studios has announced the new massively-multiplayer online game that almost everyone knew was coming - The Elder Scrolls Online.

Yes, The Elder Scrolls Online will be a new MMO, which will take place a millennium before the events of the more recent Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director Matt Firor. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made "“ and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

Zenimax has promised that the game will merge the exploration that's become known in the Elder Scrolls franchise, with the scale and social aspects that make MMO titles so appealing. There will be solo questing and public dungeons and PvP will also be present.

Currently the game has been given a provisional release date of 2013 and it's planned for release on both the PC and Mac platforms. We'll let you know more once it's announced.
