Nintendo Surprises Fans By Announcing Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Versions

Durring todays Pokémon Direct, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that the Sixth Generation of the Pokémon franchise will be making its way to the Nintendo 3DS under the names Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. These games will make full use of the Nintendo 3DS features. Check out the full Pokémon Direct announcement video below. The trailer for Pokémon X and Y starts a little over 7 minutes in.

The video opens up with Pikachu sending sparks around the world, and two new protagonists exploring a fully 3D world. The brand new starter Pokémon are also shown for the very first time. The squirrel like Pokémon Chespin (grass), a blue frog called Froakie (water), and a fox named Fennekin. (fire) Two larger Pokémon were featured in the trailer that presumably will be the new legendary Pokémon for each version.

Both games will be released worldwide this October for the Nintendo 3DS.
