Evolution is one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the world and the EVO 2013 charity auction has been finalized for the eighth official game. Super Smash Bros. Melee will now no longer be just something you see hoards of people playing on a side tournament and will now be on the main stage for thousands of fans to cheer on. The fighting game community and Super Smash Bros. fans have always been two very divisive groups and this will be a chance for Melee to be taken seriously.
The charity auction to determine the final game was a close race between Skullgirls, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Melee. By the time the charity stopped, they had raised $225,744 for breast cancer research. Melee alone raised over $94,683 alone and this just goes to show how much Smash players have waited for this moment to happen.
EVO 2013 will be held in the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in Nevada, from July 12-14. The official EVO 2013 lineup is now Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Mortal Kombat 9, Street Fighter X Tekken 2013, King of Fighters XIII, Persona 4 Arena, and now Super Smash Bros. Melee. If you still aren't sure if EVO is the the right thing for you, check out this montage of EVO 2012.
