Certain Wii Channels Are Going Offline In June

The Nintendo Wii launched a bunch of different content channels when Wii Sports and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess were released, such as the Forecast Channel and News Channel. Both Nintendo of Australia and Nintendo of Japan have announced that they will be discontinuing these Wii Network services and others on June 28th, 2013. Nintendo of America has yet to make their official announcement in regards to this but we can only assume that the services will be discontinued in all regions around the world.

The affected applications include Nintendo Channel, News Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Mii Contest Channel, and Data exchange with Wii Friends via WiiConnect24. It is also noted that the exchange of Wii messages on the Wii Messages Board, exchange of Mii characters on the Mii Channel and message/data exchange within certain games will be disabled.

Thankfully the Wii Shop Channel will remain active as well as Today's Accomplishments on the Wii Message Board. Maybe one day Nintendo will extend these services to the Wii U but for now it's time to say farewell to these channels.
