Microsoft has announced that a boxed version of Minecraft, dubbed Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, will be releasing next month on the Xbox 360.
Aside from the fact it will be appearing in physical form, this new version of Minecraft will be exactly the same as the downloadable version which became a smash hit when it released on Xbox Live. Under the Xbox Live Arcade branding, Minecraft managed to sell more than 5 million copies in its first eight months and is still the best-selling Xbox Live Arcade game in history.
People who purchsae the boxed version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will also get a 48-hour free subscription to Microsoft's Xbox Live service, to give them a taste of what's in store for them if they're able to go online.
In Europe, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is due to go on shelves on the 28th of June. Mojang will surely be hoping that this helps to drive sales of the Minecraft franchise beyond the 20 million mark, with the last reported figures suggesting it was around 19 million sales worldwide.
