Taking some influence from both smartphones and the PS4, Xbox One games will have the ability to pause and save at any point during the game.
According to the VP of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, Bill Kilgore, this feature is all thanks to the "saved game architecture." Even if players switch off their Xbox One at night, the game will resume to the exact same spot in the morning. However, game developers can choose to include traditional ways to save such as save points.
This isn't the first time that a feature such as this has been implemented. The PSP could be "shut off" and resume at any moment in the game. However, pausing and saving had always been left up to the developer.
