Activision Publishing's president has given his opinion on the the next-generation console war by stating that the PS4 has made the best first impression.
When speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Eric Hirshberg claimed that the price tag of the Xbox One compared to the PS4 is a rather large obstacle:
"If you do a focus group of a gazillion people and you show them two prices for two competitive products, 100 percent always prefer the lower price. I think from a first impression standpoint the win goes to Sony, at least as it relates to pricing."
Hirshberg went on to claim that Microsoft will have to win over the "hearts and minds" of the consumers if they are to convince them that the Xbox One is worth their money. Not just that, he believes that the same still applies to Kinect, despite it being a successful peripheral for the Xbox 360.
"I think it's the same answer [for Kinect]; I feel they have to show why that's a good thing and why it's worth the premium and deserves inclusion and why it's something that gamers are going to come to really value and appreciate."
It's interesting to hear Activision state this, given their rather public support of the Xbox 360 and Xbox One when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise. However, it sounds like Hirshberg is looking forward to sitting on the sidelines as he stated "it's going to be a fun battle to watch."
