Ever since the acquisition of LucasArts and even Marvel by Disney, there have always been rumours about it leading to their introduction in the Kingdom Hearts world. And it looks as though Nomura shares the same dream as the fans, it's just that simple.
"Of course it would be great if we could add those licenses as well," said Tetsuya Nomura when asked about including Marvel and LucasArts content in Kingdom Hearts 3. "But there are lots of rules and restrictions by Disney so we can't actually put everything people want, so it's a quite difficult decision but we're gonna prepare some surprises for you so, just wait for the informations."
When asked specifically about Star Wars, and the fact that Yoshinori Kitase is a huge fan of George Lucas' work, Nomura was a bit more candid, saying that he was extremely excited when he heard the news about Disney's acquisition of the licence.
"We're not going to decide it whether Kitase-san likes Star Wars or not," said Nomura. "But we've been talking about Star Wars itself since it became Disney's content recently.
"When I eared the news I was like "Wow! Wow!". Yeah obviously it's gonna be great if we could add it, but like I said there are a lot of restrictions and rules by Disney so we don't know what's gonna happen but yeah, we'll see."
This would be huge news for the Kingdom Hearts franchise, but it may also be bitter sweet for fans. Up until now, only key Disney franchises have been installed into the world of Kingdom Hearts, with Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron perhaps being the most outlandish. The introduction of Marvel and Star Wars would perhaps be a bit more wacky and of course, there's also Pixar too.
Nomura has recently gone on record in another interview was saying that the team in Osaka are still quite undecided about what worlds they're going to put in Kingdom Hearts 3. This means there's plenty of scope for Star Wars to worm its way into the story. But who would it be based around.
Would we see Sora aiding Luke Skywalker against Darth Vader? Or would it be more focussed around a young Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker? There's so much material there, it would be rather hard for them to narrow it all down.
