Shantae's developer, WayForward Technologies, launched a brand new Kickstarter campaign today for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, a new game for platforming series.
They are asking for $400,000 to make Half-Genie Hero, which WayForward states that it is "already confirmed" for Windows PC via Steam, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U. The campaign launched a little over an hour ago and has already gained over $30,000 from over 1000 backers.
If the Kickstarter drive is successfully funded, they will release Half-Genie Hero with an opening stage, three chapters and a conclusion. Stretch goals on the Kickstarter campaign include, new modes, characters, chapters, and costume swaps. These are listed at the $100,000 marks all the way up to $1.3 million.
WayForward is best known for its licensed games and remakes, such as the recently released DuckTales Remastered, but Shantae is one of the studio's very own original franchises. The series began with the first Shantae on Game Boy Color in 2002 (that was recently re-released on the Nintendo e-shop this summer) and the sequel, Shantae: Risky's Revenge, released for Nintendo DSiWare in 2010 and on iOS in 2011. The third game in the series, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, is scheduled to release on Nintendo 3DS later this year.
The Kickstarter campaign runs until October 4th and pledging just $15 will grant you a download code for the game on the platform of your choice. Other rewards for higher pledges include a digital soundtrack, digital artbook and early access to the games beta.
