Sony has announced today that PS4 managed to sell over 5.3 million units around the world as of February 8, 2014. Sony has also stated that this numbers correspond to retail sales to costumers, not shipped units.
"I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "We are delighted that according to the NPD Group's latest data, PS4 was January's top-selling console in the United States. The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans."
Seeing as Sony had revealed that the PS4 sold 4.2 million units during 2013, this means the PS4 continues with strong sales in 2014, selling 1.1 million units since the start of the year. In addition, this also means that Sony already managed to achieve it's goal to sell 5 million PS4 units by March 2014.
With the PS4's launch in Japan happening on the 22nd of February (saturday), the number of sales of Sony's next gen console is sure to get a huge boost.
