Sony has announced that DriveClub will be released on the 7th of October in North America, on the 8th of October in Europe, and on the 10th of October in United Kingdom. The title was originally scheduled to be released as a PS4 launch title, but it was delayed due to technical issues.
"We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game. The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DriveClub offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you're waiting for," said Shuhei Yoshida, president of Worldwide Studios.
In addition, Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition will be released alongside the standard version of the title, and will be free to download for PlayStation Plus subscribers. However, this free version will include less content than the regular game, featuring only a selection of cars and tracks from the full version of the game.
"We haven't released specific details about what we're going to refine for the PS Plus Edition yet, but in terms of the gambit of features, you're going to be able to issue challenges, you're doing to be able to do asynchronous online races, you're going to have all of the single player content in terms of events. The specifics we haven't gone into yet but you're going to have the full gaming experience," said senior designer Ben Gouldstone.
