Activision recently announced that they have invested half a billion dollars into the upcoming MMO shooter, Destiny. This enormous amount of money not only covers the immediate development cost, but also the estimated ten years that Destiny will spend churning out new content.
A spokesperson commented that the budget is needed for Destiny's expected cost of marketing, packaging, royalties, and infrastructure support. To add on the pressure, Activision also stated that they will need to sell around 16 million copies of Bungie's Destiny just to break even. They did not, however, make mention of their ten year goals to keep Destiny profitable.
Destiny releases on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and the Xbox One on September 9th, while the beta will release later this summer.
