Confirmed for several other systems this past June, Tetris Ultimate will now arrive on the Nintendo 3DS. Marking 30 years of Tetris, this latest entry into the franchise appears to have an exclusive gameplay mode for the 3DS.
The 3DS version of Tetris Ultimate will have a total of seven gameplay modes compared to the other consoles' six. These gameplay modes can be played on single-player or up to four-player and are as follows:
Marathon: Get up to level 15 racking up as many points as possible.
Endless: Go as high as level 30 and keep clearing lines as long as possible.
Ultra: Get your highest score before time runs out in this three-minute challenge.
Sprint: Clear 40 lines as quickly as you can.
Battle: Go head-to-head to knock out your opponents.
Power-Up Battle: Be the last person playing after using crazy power-ups! Go on the offensive with Carousel and make your opponent's Well shift to the left after each move, or trigger Let it Rain and dump garbage down on top of them. Buzz Saw helps you out by clearing away a number of your lines.
Challenge: Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS, a roulette mode in which the rules can change at any second.
Other than gameplay modes, Tetris Ultimate will feature Social Feeds. These feeds will keep you aware of in-game events and let you view the high scores of friends. Tetris Ultimate will also let gamers fight each other offline by mimicking your play style and battling on your behalf. If you are defeated, you can view their in-game replay to better study your opponent.
Leaderboards serve as another way to compare scores with friends as well with strangers across the globe. Tertriminos will serve as the official ranking meter to gauge players' skills.
Tetris Ultimate will release on the PS4 and Xbox One this summer while the PS Vita, 3DS, and PC versions will release in the fall. There is no word yet on a Nintendo Wii U release.
