In a recent interview with Famitsu and Dengeki, NieR: Automata director Taro Yoko and producer Yosuke Saito have revealed more details on the upcoming action RPG. The most surprising aspect revealed by the duo is the fact that there's going to be more than one protagonist.
When asked how many protagonists NieR: Automata will have, Saito said "By 'actual protagonists' then two characters." However, Yoko added "I kind of feel like there are three", leaving the actual number of protagonists a mystery.
They also revealed more details about 2B, the number of weapons at your disposal, the game's ending, and more. Despite looking a girl, the duo stated that 2B's gender will remain a mystery for now, adding that there are androids that look like a boy and android that look like a girl.
Regarding the gameplay, the number of weapons that players can use in the game was a topic that was talked about during the interview, with Yoko admitting that there will be a lot of weapons. The game will also feature costume breaks, with 2B's skirt beginning to break after taking a certain amount of damage. They also teased there will be DLC costumes for 2B.
Although the game is set after the events of the original Nier, both games won't be much connected story-wise. For those that want a happier ending than the original Nier, Saito has assured that the ending of Automata will be a happy one.
