Atlus and Vanillaware's overhaul of the PS2 classic Odin Sphere, in the form of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, is set to release in June in North America. And in the lead-up to that release date, Atlus has released a new trailer showcasing the Forest Witch, Velvet.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is a total overhaul of the original PS2 game. From completely hand-redrawn graphics and refined gameplay mechanics to optimizations for the release consoles, the game fully encapsulates an artfully elegant tale steeped in Norse mythology with all the makings of a tragic opera. The five main characters each traverse their own storylines, be it as friends, lovers, or mortal enemies, punctuated with sharp, precise combat against fantastical enemies and dragons - Odin Sphere Leifthrasir gives players the sensation of playing in a fairytale of Wagnerian proportions as the main characters all vie to regain stability in their world of warring kingdoms.
She's a complicated woman who has a major role in the game's events, looking to stop the beginning of the end of the world. She is the granddaughter of the mad King Valentine, princess of the destroyed kingdom Valentine, twin sister of Ingway, Demon Lord Odin's first born, daughter of Princess Ariel, the older half-sister of Gwendolyn, and lover of the Pooka Prince, Cornelius. (Complicated, I know.)
She has a deep-seated fear of her now-dead, abusive grandfather and hates her father, but still is a kind and determined person who would do anything for the people she loves, like Cornelius and Ingway. After the destruction of Valentine, Velvet flees to the Elrit Forest where she is on a quest to stop Armageddon. But since the kingdoms are at war with each other, it won't be that easy.
But with her double-edged red Psypher chain Gravely, she can dance her way through enemies with relative easy as he chains cut through them like butter. Legends say that Graveryl was the very first red Psypher to be created, and was eventually given to Velvet following the death of her mother. She can grab foes and hurl them backwards with Sling Whip, release flames that incinerate everything in her path with Flare Shot, and create a doppelganger with Mirage Mime. Finally, her Gleipnir ultimate unchains Graveryl for an all out high-speed assault!
Exclusive to the PS4 version is a special "Storybook" edition of the game, which will be available only in limited quantities for $79.99/CA$99.99. But for all of the non-Storybook edition versions of the game, Atlus will be including a special gift in the form of a softcover version of the 64-page art book package separately, similar to what the publisher did for their release of Dragon's Crown.
In Europe, the game's release will be handled by NIS America who will release the game on June 24. It will be available in the normal variant, with the "Storybook" edition being available through their online store for purchase for £59.99.
