Hideo Kojima surprised everyone at this year's E3 with his new game, Death Stranding. Although he has worked and developed some really superb titles in the past, Kojima is confident that Death Strading is actually "his best work so far".
"When I'm making games there's ultimately a point where I have to give up on something, where I need to compromise in order to get things done," Kojima said at yesterday's Develop: Brighton conference. "But this time, working with Mark, through technology, using different technologies, we will get around that.
"I'm very confident that working together we will be able to make something that no one has ever seen, something completely new. It should be my best work so far, I'm very confident working with [Mark]".
Kojima also expressed his opinion on the technology that game developers currently have at hand and how they can used it to convey emotions. He believes that technology has reached a point where it has become easier to get emotions through games than through actual people.
"Even direct contact from one real human being to another it's kind of hard to convey some emotion. I think our current technology allows us to convey some emotions, but through the [evolution] of technology "“ facial expressions, body temperature "“ I think it will come to a point where it will be easier to reach out emotionally through games, through online, or whatnot than through actual interaction with other human beings.
"It will become easier, and I think we are really getting close to the point where it will be easier to get emotions through games than through actual people."
Lastly, during his latest Hideo Tube episode, Hojima admitted that he feared that Death Stranding would get leaked before its announcement at E3. He explains that with the Internet it's hard to keep secrets like this and that's why only a few people at Sony knew about the project.
"Every single year, there are leaks before E3. No matter how careful we are, something always makes its way to internet. So we didn't let more than five people at Sony know about it. We kept it extremely secret. We absolutely didn't want this to be leaked.
"As E3 was getting close, many other titles were getting leaked. We were nervous and could barely sleep."
Death Stranding will be available on PS4 and PC.
