After releasing some teaser trailers a few days ago, Ubisoft has officially revealed Far Cry 5 via new trailers. Ubisoft also provided details on the setting and characters of Far Cry 5, as well as the game's release date, special editions, and pre-order bonuses.

As the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana, players will find that their arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult, the Project at Eden’s Gate, igniting a violent takeover of the county. Caught off guard and drawn into a power struggle, players must disrupt the carefully laid plans of the Project at Eden’s Gate and fan the fires of resistance to help liberate the Hope County community and themselves.

Under siege and cut off from the rest of the world, players will join forces with residents of Hope County and form the Resistance. The fight against the cult will take players to unique locations throughout Hope County that provide different gameplay experiences. During their journey, players can fly planes to engage cult forces in aerial dogfights across Big Sky Country. While tracking down cult members and gathering resources for survival across farmland, forests, mountains and rivers, players can get behind the wheel of iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs and boats. Vehicles also provide refuge when under attack by animals or as a way to quickly escape when things don’t go as planned.

To take down the cult, players will need to utilize any and all weapons at their disposal, including ranged weapons such as guns and grenades and melee weapons like a sledgehammer or baseball bat. Additionally, players can recruit Guns for Hire from a large cast of characters, or even Fangs for Hire, specialized animals like bears and cougars to complement players’ playstyles whether they’re going in stealthily or forcefully. How players approach each situation and the chaos they create in Far Cry 5 is up to them.

Far Cry 5 will also see the return of the map editor, giving players the opportunity to create and play an infinite amount of new playgrounds. The map editor will include new features that add a new dimension to the content created by fans, with more details coming soon. In addition, players can enjoy the game's campaign solo or with a friend.

Along with the announcemen trailer, Ubisoft released three character trailers that introduce us to Pastor Jerome, Nick, and Mary.

The Pastor, Jerome Jeffries

Jerome was Hope County’s parish priest for more than 15 years, and was one of the first in the community to befriend Joseph Seed, the founder of The Project at Eden’s Gate. Before long, Jerome’s flock left to follow Joseph, and Jerome tried to take it in stride – until Eden’s Gate locked down the county. Not only did Jerome lose his church, but he was beaten and left for dead in the woods. Jerome survived and vowed to protect the cult’s intended victims, and as a Gulf War vet, he’s got the training and experience to lead Hope County back to the light.

Mary May Fairgrave

A lifelong resident of Hope County, Mary May used to own and operate her family’s saloon, The Spread Eagle. The bank foreclosed on the place after her parents died and money ran short, however, and Eden’s Gate took it over for pennies on the dollar. Watching the cult swallow up her birthright is a bridge too far, and she’s ready to take back the Eagle – and Hope County – by any means necessary.

Nick Rye

Nick comes from a long line of military pilots, and his decision not to enlist created a deep rift between him and his father. Instead, Nick took up the family legacy in a different way, waging war against farm pests as a cropduster pilot and trying to start a family with his wife, Kim. Lately, though, Eden’s Gate has been making his life difficult through its aggressive attempts to buy his cropdusting business, and as the situation in Hope County heats up, it seems war has finally come to Nick’s doorstep. And this time, he’s answering the call.
