When Crystal Dynamics first announced Shadow of the Tomb Raider back in March, we learned that this adventure would be "Lara Croft’s defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider". In a new video focusing on Lara Croft's evolution in the rebooted Tomb Raider series, narrative director Jason Dozois explains exactly what that sentence meant.
In Tomb Raider (2013), Lara was trying to prove her father was wrong in believing in myths, but ultimately came to accept that his father was right all along. In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara is trying to restore the reputation of her family's name, and by the end of the game, she goes off on her own to try to stop Trinity even though she doesn't know the organization's true goal. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara will learn that all actions have consequences, as she unintentionally starts a Mayan apocalypse when she steals an ancient relic that Trinity was after, and it's now up to her to stop this apocalypse.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases on the 14th of September on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
