God of War: Ascension Launch Sales Fall Short Of God of War 3
PS3 0 CommentsGod of War: Ascension, the latest installment into the God of War franchise, has seen poor sales during its launch week in the UK when compared to the last major installment, God of War 3.
God of War 3 appeared on the PlayStation 3 for the first time when it released three years ago. When looking at worldwide sales, it outperformed God of War 2 (which released towards the end of the PS2's life-cycle) by 32 percent.
According to GfK Chart-Track, who are in charge of compiling sales data across the UK, have reported that God of War: Ascension's launch week sales figures are less than half of God of War 3.
It means the sales of God of War: Ascension saw it unable to topple Tomb Raider at the top of the UK all-formats sales charts. However, it did manage to sell more than StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm - when looking at boxed copies only.
Sony were hoping that God of War: Ascension would be a strong exclusive title for their 2013 calendar, as it offers multiplayer for the first time in the series. Up to eight players can take part in this, with them placed on opposite teams.
It will be interesting to see whether a similar trend is witnessed in the United States, where statistics on sales are compiled by the NPD Group. God of War has historically sold the strongest in this territory, and it could give an indication for future sales trends relating to Ascension. Unlike GfK Chart-Track, NPD Group provides actual numbers with its monthly reports.
In other God of War: Ascension news, one of the trophies had to be patched to offensive wording of the trophy. It's unlikely that this would have impacted sales though.
