Dark Souls Worldwide Sales Exceed 2.3 Million Copies From Software has revealed that Dark Souls, the spiritual successor to the popular Demon's Souls, has managed to sell more than 2.3 million copies worldwide.

The news was revealed by From Software's studio head, Eiichi Nakajima, as he was addressing the Japanese press during last week.

Nakajima stated that the original version of Dark Souls, which unlikely Demon's Souls, was published by Namco Bandai worldwide, sold 375,000 copies in Japan where it was a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In the rest of the world, it managed to sell 1.3 million copies for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Later down the line, the game was re-released alongside additional downloadable content and this helped the game to sell another 692,000 copies around the world. At this stage, the game was also released on the PC.

Unlike Dark Souls, which wasn't a sequel to Demon's Souls and instead served as a spiritual successor, From Software are now hard at work on a direct sequel called Dark Souls 2. This is due for release at some point during 2014 and has been announced so far for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Namco Bandai released the first gameplay footage from Dark Souls II during the week, where the developers talked about some of the changes they're looking to make.
