Activision Announce Call of Duty: Ghosts

    PS3 PS4 X360 PC 0 Comments May 1st, 2013, 5:29pm EDT by Darryl Kaye
Activision Announce Call of Duty: Ghosts Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Ghosts, the next main-line installment into the Call of Duty franchise, not Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 as many people were expecting..

As expected, Call of Duty: Ghosts will be developed by Infinity Ward, as Treyarch handled Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which released last year. In a statement, Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin said: "Everyone was expecting us to make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we're not resting on our laurels."

This will be seen as good news for fans of the Call of Duty franchise. Every time Activision has expanded the franchise, it has led to more innovation and most importantly from their perspective, more sales.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare revolutionised the first-person shooter genre when it released in 2007 and when Call of Duty: Black Ops released, it smashed records to become the largest entertainment launch in history. It still remains the best selling video game of all-time in the United States.

During the announcement of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Activision stated that the game would be coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It will also be coming to the PS4 and next-generation Xbox, but it looks as though it will be skipping the Nintendo Wii U.

This will be a massive blow for Nintendo, as Call of Duty: Black Ops II was released on their platform. If Activision are going to skip the Wii U this time around, it could suggest that the publisher doesn't believe there's any merit in producing the game for the platform.

As has become customary for previous Call of Duty releases, Activision will showcase the world premier of gameplay footage during a Microsoft conference - their console maker of choice. However, it will be during Microsoft's reveal of the next-generation Xbox on the 21st of May, not at this year's E3. This will be steaming live on with Xbox.com, Xbox Live or Spike TV for residents in North America.

Call of Duty: Ghost's release date is currently set as the 5th of November, 2013 on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. There have been no specifics mentioned for the PS4 and next-gen Xbox, but once we get solid release dates for the consoles, they will surely follow close behind.
