EA Takes Aim At Modern Warfare With Bad Company 2, Medal Of Honor

Tue, Mar 2nd, 2010, 2:53 am (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS

With the release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 upon us, some have suggested that this game has the best chance of challenging Modern Warfare's position on top of first person shooters. Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Mario Retain Their UK Dominance

Mon, Nov 30th, 2009, 10:37 am (EST) BY DARRYL

Not massively surprising, but Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii have continued to hold the top three spots in this week's UK video game sales charts. Modern Warfare 2 DLC Could Hit $100M In Sale

Posted on 2009/11/25 BY KYLE WYNEN

If the sales numbers of Modern Warfare 2 weren't high enough, lest we forget the impending downloadable content (DLC) to be bought for the title. According to Broadpoint AmTech analyst, Ben Schachter, sales of DLC map packs and other DLC could potentially account for over $100 millions in revenue. Here's exactly how Schachter put it, courtesy of IndustryGamers.com,

As with the last two CoD titles, the game itself should maintain its $60 launch price until the next iteration (due in large part to the value of its online gameplay), but ATVI will also benefit significantly from the high-margin DLC potential enabled by the packaged product's success. We estimate that ATVI will generate at least $100mil-$140mil in gross revenue from Call of Duty DLC in 2010.

Schachter and his team's math is based on sales DLC map packs Activision released for last year's Call of Duty: World at War. World at War had three DLC map pack, and with that much revenue in the balance for Activision, it's almost a certainty that we'll see three DLC map packs for Modern Warfare 2. That's the real highlight. More »

Modern Warfare 2 is the fourth title in the Call of Duty series from developer Infinity Ward and is a direct sequel to their previous title, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. As with the original, the story takes place in multiple locations all over the world and the player assumes the role of multiple soldiers from different factions. The game also features three separate modes to play through. There's a single player campaign which sequels the original, two player co-op that varies from level to level, and a full multiplayer mode to keep players involved for ages. More »
