GamesCom: The 3rd Birthday Hands-OnFri, Aug 27th, 2010, 8:43 am (EST) BY DARRYL
The observant amongst us will notice that The 3rd Birthday, despite being part of the Parasite Eve franchise, doesn't mention Parasite Eve anywhere in the title. That's because Square Enix only want it loosely associated with the games that came in the past - they see The 3rd Birthday as a complete reboot for the franchise, a new chapter if you will. It's certainly not a spin-off though, so don't go thinking about it like that. |
GamesCom: BioShock Infinite InterviewThu, Aug 26th, 2010, 5:14 pm (EST) BY LEE BRADLEY
With our heads still spinning from the astounding (if heavily scripted) demo of Bioshock Infinite at GamesCom last week, we sat down with Irrational's Director of Product Development Timothy Gerritsen to see if we could squeeze any information out of him. What we got was a tantalising glimpse into the twisted world of Columbia. |

San Francisco mixes things up in the Driver series by introducing the "Shift" mechanic that allows players to seamlessly teleport into any car in the city. After playing the game, we followed up with Driver: San Francisco's Art Director, Jack Couvela, to learn more. Check out our hands-on preview for an overview of the game's mechanics. |
E3 2010: Hands-On With MindjackFri, Jul 2nd, 2010, 4:24 pm (EST) BY COLINSquare Enix had an interesting plethora of non Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games at their E3 booth this year. From Kane & Lynch 2 to Deus Ex: Human Revolution and even Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. However, even among these well known franchises, Square Enix had set up a demo booth for a new and interesting take on the third person shooter genre called Mindjack. The concept is simple, hack into the minds of others and make them you allies in order to fight against a corrupt organization in a world where cybernetics have become so commonplace that it threatens to "destroy the very core of humanity." E3 2010: Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove PreviewSun, Jun 27th, 2010, 7:13 pm (EST) BY COLINAmong the Lufia and Harvest Moon demos at Natsume's E3 booth this year was a rather charmingly cute rhythm game called Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove. That's right, its name is even an alliteration, how wicked is that? It's a DS and WiiWare title that is quite similar to games like Elite Beat Agent, except with a lot more cute characters and tunes you can shake a stick at. Gaming Union had the opportunity to give it a shot and here are our hands-on impressions. More » |

E3 2010: First Look At Nelson Tethers: Puzzle AgentFri, Jun 25th, 2010, 5:23 pm (EST) BY NICKAs far as puzzle detective games go, the Professor Layton games on the Nintendo DS have been the leading brand for a while now. Telltale Games would like to change this with their own game, Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent. Telltale's new property is the end result of a collaboration between themselves and Graham Annable, an accomplished animator. The game will be the first in a new venture for Telltale, the 'pilot project' which, given enough positive feedback, will see games made into a fully fledged series, Telltales' speciality. More » |

E3 2010: XCOM First LookWed, Jun 23rd, 2010, 1:32 pm (EST) BY ALEXWhile visiting 2K's booth at E3 2010, we had the good fortune to check out XCOM behind closed doors. It's definitely a change from the original games, as it's played entirely in first-person. It also takes place far before any of the past games, which were set at the turn of the Millennium, while XCOM occurs during the 1950s. With these changes, a new developer, and a new generation of technology, will XCOM stay true enough to the originals to maintain its fan base? More » |
E3 2010: Driver: San Francisco Hands-On PreviewMon, Jun 21st, 2010, 3:40 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS
The Driver series has a long and storied history, which includes the distinction of being the first ever open world driving game. Ubisoft eventually acquired the rights to publish Driver from Atari after 2006's Parallel Lines. A new iteration had been long rumored across the internet, and Ubisoft finally unveiled the new game this past week at E3. Driver: San Francisco puts players back into John Tanner's shoes, but in ways you might not have expected. |
E3 2010 Preview: Take-TwoWed, Jun 9th, 2010, 1:52 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS
Gaming Union's E3 publisher preview series continues to countdown all the way to the big event next week. Next up on the list is Take-Two Interactive, best known for their large subsidiaries, Rockstar and 2K. These combined companies command some of the most well recognized franchises in gaming such as Grand Theft Auto, Midnight Club, Bioshock, and 2K Sports. As usual, Rockstar is riding a wave of success, most recently with Red Dead Redemption and therefore doesn't need to directly attend E3. However, this doesn't mean that we won't see Rockstar games at E3. Will Grand Theft Auto V be announced at Microsoft's press conference? What about the PS3-exclusive Agent? L.A. Noire? Bully 2? Irrational Games next project? Take-Two's got a lot of potential this year. |

Alpha Protocol PreviewThu, May 6th, 2010, 9:53 am (EST) BY ADAM MAIt takes a lot to make a game about spies, particularly one that a developer would like to be taken seriously. Memorable characters, motivations, and action all have to mix and blend together nicely otherwise things turn sour. So naturally it's of great interest to see how much detail and depth has gone into making Alpha Protocol, particularly in the development of its cast and the web of 'choice' that surrounds each decision made.
