From what Gaming Union got to experience during the demo on the show floor of E3 2009 last week, we can easily say that it's a Metroid game through and through. More »

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Shooting Past Original

Thu, Apr 22nd, 2010, 12:25 pm (EST) BY SHAWN

When Nintendo first announced the sequel to the hugely successful Super Mario Galaxy, cleverly-titled Super Mario Galaxy 2, at E3 2009, many gamers were surprised as up until now, each new console Mario title had been on the system that followed the previous title. With news that the game would play very similarly to the original, most wondered if this was a sign that the company's successful console was beginning to fall on hard times and needed to be propped up by its biggest titles. From what has currently been revealed about the game, this couldn't be farther from the truth.

The original Super Mario Galaxy was set in outer space, where Mario traveled from galaxy to galaxy in order to collect Power Stars, which could be obtained by solving puzzles or defeating enemies, and sometimes even huge bosses. The highlight of the game came in the new physics system, which revolved around a unique feature of giving every celestial object its own gravitational force, allowing the player to completely circumnavigate the planets, walking either sideways like normal or even upside down. This also applied to jumping from planet to planet, which was one of the prime factors used in a number of the game's most tricky and difficult puzzles. More »

Sin & Punishment: Star Successor Preview

Wed, Apr 21st, 2010, 12:08 pm (EST) BY SHAWN

Back in 2000, Treasure, a developer known for classic rail-shooters such as Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun, released a new rail-shooter entitled Sin & Punishment on the Nintendo 64. The title was firmly rooted in the classic Treasure rail-shooter formula, but was in 3D instead of the 2D approach many of the developer's titles had used in the past. Due to delays in the game's development and the weakening market for the Nintendo 64, the title never made it outside of Japan, even though it was made with a Western audience in mind with English voiceovers. In late 2007 Nintendo released the title on the Wii's Virtual Console. The success of the game on the Virtual Console allowed for a sequel to be made, which was first revealed during Nintendo's Fall 2008 conference. It was actually released last Fall in Japan and North American and European gamers have been waiting for news about the game and when it would be released after numerous delays and postponements. Now, with only a few weeks left before the European and North American releases, is Sin & Punishment: Star Successor worth the wait? If what we've seen so far indicated anything, it appears that the title will be able to cater to both the hardcore Treasure fans and those who are new to the rail-shooter genre. More »

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Preview

Wed, Apr 7th, 2010, 12:44 pm (EST) BY COLIN

Announced at E3 2009 by Hideo Kojima himself, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is the next canon entry into the Metal Gear timeline. The game is set to take place 10 years after Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, further telling the tragic tale of Big Boss and the creation of his independent military organization, Outer Heaven. It's hardly been a year since the announcement, but Kojima Productions have obviously been hard at work, teasing the many watchful eyes with an abundance of trailers showing off bits of story and plenty of gameplay.

Set after the events of Operation Snake Eater and Portable Ops, a substantially large armed military has taken residence in the defenceless nation of Costa Rica, bringing nukes into the country. In order to repel the invading army, Naked Snake is approached to deploy his own group of soldiers dubbed More »
