Gamers Decide The Fate Of Carmine

Wed, Jul 21st, 2010, 11:16 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

It's not often that gamers get to decide which character they get to see live or die in a game, and even rarer when that decision is made mid-development. Epic Games is letting players decide the fate of the latest Carmine brother through the purchasing of Xbox 360 Avatar t-shirts. More »

E3 2010: Bulletstorm Hands-On Impressions

Tue, Jun 22nd, 2010, 6:31 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS

Bulletstorm, from developers People Can Fly and Epic Games, is an upcoming first-person shooter that rewards players for killing in a creative, sadistic way. Being built on the Unreal Engine, in close collaboration with Epic, has given Bulletstorm a very familiar presentation - it looks strikingly similar to Gears of War, albeit at a much quicker pace. While the core "skillshot" mechanics are entertaining, the limited move-set in the demo makes the game's staying power uncertain. More »

E3 2010: Blade Kitten Impressions

Mon, Jun 21st, 2010, 9:21 am (EST) BY DARRYL

Despite being a development studio that ranks alongside the likes of Insomniac Games, Epic Games, and Blizzard in the Develop 100 list, Krome Studios have only been able to work on one of their own IPs until now, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. That game went on to be a platinum selling franchise, so hopes are high for their second original IP, Blade Kitten. More »

E3 2010 Preview: Electronic Arts

Fri, Jun 11th, 2010, 1:49 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS

As E3 draws closer, Gaming Union continues our feature series of publisher previews before the big show. This time around it's Electronic Arts under the spotlight. The publisher has released a fairly detailed list of the game lineup for this year's conference, but there will definitely be a handful of surprises as well. We already know blockbuster titles such as Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, Dead Space 2, Medal of Honor, and the staples of EA Sports will all be there. The question remains, what is EA still hiding up its sleeve? Mirror's Edge 2? Battlefield 3? A new Burnout? Mass Effect 3?

EA's lineup of non-sports certainly looks impressive this year. Personally, Dead Space 2 is one of my most anticipated E3 titles to see in some form next week. A playable demo would be spectacular - finally getting to hear Isaac talk, although, I'm not sure he needs to as the original did fine without it. Crysis 2 is another title that could have a very big showing. The original Crysis was the benchmark of PC graphical prowess, but now Crytek have decided to bring the sequel to consoles. Reports have been mixed as to the quality of the graphics on consoles, but ultimately it's the gameplay that will make or break this game. More »

How Bulletstorm Guarantees A Day One Purchase

Wed, May 19th, 2010, 10:16 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

In a time when expensive marketing campaigns that span months on end is trendy way to generate hype, there remain a few rogue companies that actually know how to make a good trailer. It's not hard to do, but for some reason these companies have it in their heads that gamers are like elusive Pokemon that can only be caught with a massive amount of treats. Keeping this analogy intact let me explain why the Bulletstorm trailer is effectively the Master Ball of marketing, and how it has secured (at least from me) the legendary 'Day One' purchase. Should Gears of War 3 Wait Until The Next Generation?

Thu, Apr 8th, 2010, 11:32 am (EST) BY ADAM MA

In many ways the Gears of War series is quite unique to the console-shooter genre. Slower paced gameplay, loads of gore, and characters that look like they could rip a tank in half – it really sets Gears apart from the rest of the crowd. In a generation where games are trying to look as realistic as possible, it's kind of refreshing to see Marcus and Dom chainsaw their way through an entire race. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure what’s left to look forward to in Gears of War 3. After all, Gears 2 was really more of the same, only with some better graphics and a few revamped weapons. Would it be better to wait for the next generation of consoles so they could really wow their audience? More »
