1  Italian City Angry With Gran Turismo 5 Mon, Aug 23rd, 2010, 3:15 pm (EST) BY COLIN City officials of Siena, a city in Italy, are pretty upset over the recreation of their Piazza del Campo in Sony and Polyphony's Gran Turismo 5. The locale has quite the history and is also the known for its infamous bareback horse racing events. 0  RAGE Release Date Announcement Signals Shift In Game Production Fri, Aug 20th, 2010, 6:11 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS id Software, the iconic team behind the Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake franchises, is currently working on their first new IP in over a decade, RAGE. The upcoming cross-genre title, largely considered a first-person shooter with driving and open world elements, was recently given a firm release date of September 13th, 2011 in North America. The announcement comes over a year prior to the planned launch, a rarity in an industry that tends to reveal launch details at the last possible second in production. id's release announcement shows a degree of consideration and planning that the larger gaming industry should work to adopt. Being able to set a firm release date well in advance indicates that id is confident in their ability to reach that target, likely meaning RAGE's development is somewhat near completion or at least far enough along to see the end in sight. It's also safe to assume that some time has been allocated for unexpected hurdles, creating a buffer zone after production is complete to avoid delays. This approach affords publishers and developers much greater stability when creating costly triple A titles, avoiding damaging delays. More »

1  3D On PlayStation 3 Capped At 720p Thu, Jul 15th, 2010, 2:10 pm (EST) BY COLIN According to The Sixth Axis, confirmation on the resolution of 3D games on the PlayStation 3 have, well, been confirmed. Unsurprisingly, they'll be capped at 720p, not that there are a lot of games that run in 1080p in the first place. Those that do adopt the new 3D tech won't be disappointed though. Games like Killzone 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Motorstorm: Apocalypse have proven that games do look pretty incredible in the 3rd dimension. 0  Listing For Gran Turismo 5 Ultimate Edition At Steep Price Mon, Jul 5th, 2010, 12:29 pm (EST) BY JAMIE COURTS Polyphony Digital has announced that Gran Turismo 5 will be available in three separate packages for fans to buy the version of their choice. Of course there is the standard edition, and then a special edition that includes a model car and book for $99.99 retail. There is also an Ultimate Edition that is yet to be detailed, though Amazon France has a price listed at 189 Euro. More »

0  E3 2010: Gran Turismo 5 Hands-On Preview Mon, Jun 21st, 2010, 2:20 pm (EST) BY JAMIE COURTS Gran Turismo 5 is finally on its way with an official release date of November 2, and at E3 2010, Gaming Union got a hands-on look at the highly anticipated racing simulator. The demo that we tried was also in 3D with the Driving Force Pro racing wheel. The 3D version of the game looked good, with a solid framerate and smooth animation that made the track sort of pop out as you race. Although the 3D does add a bit, it's also not really an essential part of the experience. The 2D mode looks just as good with an almost photo realistic appearance and it won't really affect how the game is played overall since the 3D effect is fairly minor anyway. More »

1  Gran Turismo 5 Dated, Supports Move, 3D Wed, Jun 16th, 2010, 1:54 pm (EST) BY JAMIE COURTS After a long wait that seemed to take forever, Sony has finally revealed an official release date for Gran Turismo 5 in their E3 2010 press conference. After a feature highlighting some more gorgeous footage of the GT, WRC, and NASCAR racing, the trailer presented a release date of November 2. Along with the announcement of a release date, Sony has also announced full 3D support as well as upcoming support for PlayStation move on its release. The 3D could be interesting if it still looks as good as it does in 2D. More »

2  E3 2010 Preview: Sony Tue, Jun 15th, 2010, 1:20 am (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS After watching Microsoft's E3 press conference held earlier today, all eyes are on Sony's event tomorrow. Microsoft generally underwhelmed with their offering, which has given Sony a massive opportunity to steal the show. Will they seize on it? All signs point to yes. Based on Sony's string of pre-E3 major game announcements - LittleBigPlanet 2, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Killzone 3, InFamous 2, and Motorstorm: Apocalypse - there's good reason to believe the PlayStation maker has got something big in the works. Why else would they let so much slip? There's still the likes of Resistance 3, Gran Turismo 5, The Last Guardian, Jaffe's secret project, Pixeljunk Shooter 2, a new PSP, a premium PSN service, and more to talk about. While Sony has already announced many of their upcoming sequels, that doesn't mean they won't make an appearance at the press conference. A new trailer or demo for LittleBigPlanet 2, InFamous 2 and Motorstorm: Apocalypse seems very likely. My money is on Killzone 3 to show up in the form of a 3D demo, as Sony will be eager to promote 3D in many of their top tier first-party titles. More »

3  Sony Announces InFamous 2 Fri, Jun 4th, 2010, 5:58 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS Sony has apparently decided to take advantage of the pre-E3 lull in major news and announcements. The company has unveiled several big name new titles in the run up to E3 such as LittleBigPlanet 2, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Killzone 3, and now InFamous 2. The latest issue of Game Informer features an InFamous 2 cover story. Not much is known about the game at this point except the vague promise of a "new city, new powers and new gameplay." Sony says developer Sucker Punch have "improved every aspect of it," though take that with a grain of salt, what else would you expect them to say? More »

At last week's Nurburgring 24 hour race, Kazunori Yamauchi, Creator of Gran Turismo, alongside driver Owen Mildenhall, raced two Lexus IS F with an on board computer that lets racer load lap times exactly into Gran Turismo 5, and then attempt to beat those lap times in game.
