0  Sony: 13 Million PS3s Will Be Sold By End Of March Fri, Mar 12th, 2010, 12:28 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS The February NPD sales figures revealed a 31% increase from 2009 for the PS3 and Sony is forecasting that trend to continue through March. Despite recent supply shortages, Sony is predicting PS3 sales in 2010 will hit 13 million by the end of March. Patrick Seybold, Sony Computer Entertainment America Senior Director of Corporate Communications, revealed the company is "tracking to sell 13 million PS3s worldwide by the end of March, which marks a 30 percent increase over last fiscal year." 3  PlayStation Network Problems Apparently Resolved Mon, Mar 1st, 2010, 7:43 pm (EST) BY DARRYL People have been going pretty crazy over the last 24 hours, as the PlayStation Network pretty much collapsed. Anyone with a pre-PS3 slim console was advised to literally not use their PlayStation 3 as Sony weren't sure of the damage that could be caused. However, it now appears to be resolved. Many users have reported that their PS3s are now connected to the PlayStation Network, and they are now able to play games like Heavy Rain or Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce. More »

4  How Heavy Rain Succeeds Where Mass Effect 2 Failed Fri, Feb 26th, 2010, 7:29 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA Mass Effect 2 was a game about choices. Yes, it did have aliens, a plot to shake the universe on its very foundation, sex sequences, and an epic soundtrack to tie it all together. But ultimately Mass Effect 2 completely hinged itself on the decisions commander Shepard made. The alliances you chose, the romances you engage in, and even your save file from the last game all played a role in shaping the storyline that unfolded till the very end. However, while Mass Effect 2 did keep many of its promises there was one really powerful storytelling element that was all but absent from the gameplay. Something that Playstation 3's exclusive Heavy Rain has in spades. Giving decisions to a player and then telling them that they will experience the full weight and consequences of their actions is a hefty promise to make. For a consequence to be experienced, the player needs to genuinely care about the characters. Mass Effect 2 never really gave me the chance to love my team. Sure I collected them, met them, learned about their hobbies and sexual preferences. In some ways I became attached, more for their combat usefulness than anything else though. The most interesting characters are received late in the game (Thane and Legion) and they aren't covered nearly enough, while the useless predictable eye candy hovered about for no particular reason at all (Miranda and Jacob). You learn about them through forced conversation that only sometimes seem to flow, and it's only through the game's cutscenes that characters really seem alive. More »

When posting on his personal Twitter account, Christer Ericson, who is the Director of Technology at Sony Santa Monica, said "God of War 3 does NOT do a HD install. Developed by Quantic Dream, Heavy Rain is an exclusive for the PlayStation 3 that tries to find the answer to that question. Priding itself as an 'Interactive Drama', Heavy Rain follows the story the Origami Killer, a serial killer who drowns children and leaves behind origami figures with each body. Quantic Dream takes a very large risk with this title, hoping that its psychological thriller can finally put a wrangle on what exactly an adult gaming experience should be. More »
