Capcom: Japan Doesn't 'Have A Hope In Hell'Mon, May 17th, 2010, 1:37 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLASThere's been a lot of discussion inside the gaming industry about the decline of Japan in recent years. In the minds of many, Japan's influence globally is severely lagging behind the West in terms of innovation and quality. Capcom has been a particularly vocal critique of Japanese gaming culture. The latest comes from Lost Planet 2's producer, Jun Takeuchi, who fears if there isn't drastic change Japan won't "have a hope in hell" of catching up with the West. More » |
Lost Planet 2 ReviewTue, May 11th, 2010, 7:29 pm (EST) BY DARRYLLost Planet: Extreme Condition was met with quite a bit of praise for its setting, visuals, and gameplay when it first released in 2007. A different breed of third-person shooter, Lost Planet gave players the chance to explore a brand new world filled with dangerous (and gigantic) creatures. Though its controls were hit or miss, most agreed that the game was worth looking into be it for single player or online play. Which begs to ask the question, how much has changed from the first Lost Planet to the more recent Lost Planet 2? More » |

Lost Planet 2's Co-Op Is Its Strongest Selling PointThu, Apr 29th, 2010, 5:36 pm (EST) BY ADAM MAI remember two things very distinctly about the first Lost Planet: snow, and very large monsters. To that effect the game delivered, but on a personal level I was very disappointed. It had all the mechanics of a typical Capcom game, implemented in the right fashion. Weapons scattered across a level, bosses with very large glowing areas to depict where I should shoot, and robots in some format were all part of the game's core design. But it always felt like there was something missing. Unlike Shadow of the Colossus which lent itself beautifully to a single player experience, Lost Planet really just felt like it needed more help in the monster-killing department. I would even go as far to say that the world of Lost Planet felt almost empty without the presence of additional players. More » |

Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer PreviewTue, Apr 27th, 2010, 7:07 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLASIf there’s one thing Lost Planet detractors and defenders can agree on, it’s that the series has got a quirky personality. For better or worse the environments, abilities, and pacing all have a design you're not going to find many other places. After spending a few hours with a portion of Lost Planet 2’s multiplayer offering, it’s safe to say that fans of the original will recognize the latest iteration, as the core mechanics are intact. Some nice additions include a variety of new vital suits (VS), detailed character customization, and a leveling system. While I do have a few gripes, Lost Planet 2’s multiplayer appears to be a solid entry into the sea of online shooters. More » |
