GamesCom: Seth Killian Interview

Thu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 6:10 pm (EST) BY LEE BRADLEY

Aside from being the Capcom Community Manager, an all-round Street Fighter master and the guy who SFIV's boss was named after, Seth Killian is also one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. It was a pleasure then, to sit down in the relative calm of a hotel room just around the corner from the carnage that was GamesCom and chew the fat about everything from the pains of balancing, to generating "a giant storm of crap." Two New Characters Announced For Marvel Vs Capcom 3

Sat, Aug 21st, 2010, 2:25 am (EST) BY ADAM MA

You all know the way these kinds of news posts go by now, so I'll make sure to keep this short and sweet. Most people are pretty familiar with Viewtiful Joe, who has made a few other cameos before this. He also has apparently been given a new voice actor, of whom doesn't sound quite right to me. More »

Capcom: The King of Fighters

Wed, Aug 11th, 2010, 8:37 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

Capcom is, at the moment, the dominant force in the fighting game industry. There's no sense in denying it, regardless of what style of fighter you may prefer. From their popular Versus series of games (Marvel vs Capcom, Tatsunoko vs Capcom), to their original IPs such as Street Fighter, they're successfully holding a lead that most other developers would die for. But is their position really that hard to reach? Is there a secret formula to Capcom's success that no other developer can copy? Not really, it just takes a little bit of time and listening to a few of your fans to ensure a spot as number one.

Though there are many aspects in the fighting genre that are shared across all games, few have done more to assist the multiplayer community like Capcom has. They've set a high bar, an industry standard, but they shouldn't have been the first to do it. Tournament modes, solid netcode, and a few fan-requested updates are all that's really required to turn a 'great' game into an 'awesome' game. Yet despite these pretty basic concepts, other developers continue to mess things up. Leaving out fan favourite characters, or making their games launch with poor online-playability is embarrassing, and makes room for your competition to claim the glory. More »

There have been a lot of fake posts of 'character lineups' for Marvel vs Capcom 3 lately, and everyone seems to be desperately biting. Fortunately, this rumor looks a little better grounded than just 'a list'. MvC3's producer Ryoto Niitsuma has recently done an interview regarding the game, an interview that may of been slightly leaked. More »

Fri, Jul 23rd, 2010, 11:13 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

We told you earlier that Amertasu and Thor were throwing down the hammer/paw in MvC3 as playable characters. But a brief announcement and a few pictures do no justice to how fantastic these new characters look. It really goes to show how much detail is being put into each characters design, the amount of technical difference between them all is extremely well defined. No further explanation here, simply watch the videos below and be put into awe. More »

Amaterasu And Thor Join Marvel VS Capcom 3 Roster

Thu, Jul 22nd, 2010, 12:10 pm (EST) BY COLIN

Capcom's ever growing roster for Marvel VS Capcom 3 just keeps growiwng. Yesterday, Doctor Doom, Super Skrull, Trish and Chun Li joined the action and today with a new pair duking it out. It's quitel literally the battle of the gods...or goddess.

The two new characters announced are Marvel's Thor and Capcom's - or should I say Clover's - Amaterasu from Okami. It'll be interesting to see the move set for Ammy, makes one wonder if players will be able to pause mid-game to use the celestial brush. More »

One of the biggest fighting games to be announced in recent history, Marvel vs Capcom 3 has gained quite a bit of attention that doesn't seem to be slowing down. Naturally Capcom is playing it up, giving very limited opportunities to soak in any new info they can. The most recent bone thrown to the fans? Evo2k10, where new details on the most recent MvC3 build were run down (in addition to a few flashy new moves). More »

E3 is just around the corner, and that means it's time for a lot of speculation as to what developers will be pulling out all the stops, and what developers may just be pulling out a few really impressive stops. Hey, lets face it, it's hard to keep track of all the gaming news that flies around. E3 can throw a lot of developers into a frenzy, and with all the announcements going on it can be hard to follow what's taking place. That's why Gaming Union has decided to help out by giving a roundup on everything the developers have announced so far. First up on our list of developers: Capcom. More »

Five Mechanics Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Needs To Be A True Successor

Wed, May 5th, 2010, 8:52 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

Marvel vs Capcom 3 has caused quite a bit of a stir amongst the gaming community, as hype and anticipation for the game's announcement has been years in the making. Since then everyone and anyone has been throwing down character speculations and wish lists as to who their favorite fighting team would be, but personally I'm far more interested to see what mechanics will make it from the last game to this next-gen rebirth. After all it was the speed, chaos, and 'cool factor' that made Marvel vs Capcom 2 such a blast to play. Being able to see Wolverine tear up Ryu with his claws was just a sweet bonus. More »

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Development Started Summer 2008

Fri, Apr 23rd, 2010, 6:11 pm (EST) BY DARRYL

Capcom have announced, via GameTrailers, that the newly teased Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has actually been in development since the Summer of 2008. This really contradicts what Seth Killian, Capcom's community manager told us last year as he claimed Marvel vs. Capcom 3's arrival would depend on sales of Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

When speaking to GameTrailers, Capcom's Ryota Niitsuma said "We really started working in development in summer 2008. But all the contract and legal negotiations -- that came way before that, as well. So ... we started to produce this game before the success of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as a downloadable title." More »

Defining Immersion: The Fighting Genre

Tue, Jan 19th, 2010, 9:24 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

How to properly capture and engage the average gamer is something that companies have been struggling with for a very long time. As tastes between individuals vary greatly, it's natural that each and every person will define immersion differently. Gaming Union covered a keynote speech by Yannis Mallat at DIG London 2009, in which he described how Ubisoft tests to ensure their games thoroughly have the ability to capture an audience before moving into full development. However even once a game has a core mechanic down that doesn't mean it'll be an inherent success. More »
