5  Update: Former Infinity Ward Heads Sue Activision Tue, Mar 2nd, 2010, 4:45 am (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS The ugly split between the former heads of Infinity Ward and Activision continues to send shock waves throughout the industry. The latest development is the lawsuit filed today by Jason West and Vince Zampella against Activision. In a statement released by their legal team, O'Melveny & Myers LLP, West and Zampella are suing for compensation from the sales of Modern Warfare 2, and the right to control "Modern Warfare-branded games." This perception of direct competition is well founded, the DICE team has clearly gotten a lot of inspiration from Modern Warfare, while at the same time retaining the feel of a Battlefield game. 3  How Modern Warfare's Failures Contribute to FPS Gaming Thu, Feb 18th, 2010, 9:40 am (EST) BY ADAM MA It's hard to talk badly about a game that sold over 1 billion dollars worldwide, because it's clear that they've done something right. In this case that 'something' was Call of Duty 4, a game that set the stage for a whole new generation of shooting games. But now that Modern Warfare 2 is actually out, it's really hard to justify playing it still. Cheaters and exploiters are naturally rampant in almost every single game with a multiplayer component, but Modern Warfare 2 is absolutely out of control. So what do you do when cheaters ruin a poorly programmed game? Move on to another title, and hope its programmed better. Is it really a surprise to anyone that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Aliens vs Predator demos are doing so well? Aliens vs Predator might of had a lot of criticism surrounding its gameplay, but that didn't stop 14,000 people from trying it out over the span of a single weekend. Bad Company 2 squashes that by comparison, having been downloaded over 2 million times across Xbox Live and Playstation network, making it the most downloaded demo EA has ever released. More »

0  January NPD: Mario Outsells Mass Effect 2 Thu, Feb 11th, 2010, 10:25 pm (EST) BY DARRYL January's NPD results have been published, and they show some interesting figures from the perspective of sales figures as it wasn't a new game that stole the show. The NPD results, which show sales statistics for the region of North America, showed that New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the top selling game during January. Mass Effect 2 performed pretty well too, despite only being released for a few days of the month. More »

0  DICE: Bad Company 2 Not Competing With Modern Warfare Thu, Jan 28th, 2010, 2:25 am (EST) BY KYLE WYNEN The Senior Producer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Patrick Bach, says his game is not directly competing with juggernaut Modern Warfare, despite the similarities. Bach spoke with GamerZines about the matter, saying "please don't see it as the same game because we're not trying to be that game. We're doing Battlefield things here, we're trying to do the game that we want to do." How Bach put the comparisons was in terms of the impact and sales of Modern Ware 2, further saying, "I think a lot of people on executive levels see that as a goal, that we will beat Modern Warfare." Bach is fairly convincing, but he doesn't have to convince us as it's blatantly obvious EA's Medal of Honor revamp, not Bad Company 2, is their direct answer to Modern Warfare 2. More »
