Why Japanese Developers Need New IPs Part 2

Thu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 9:54 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

Last time we covered what exactly is wrong in the mainstream Japanese gaming industry. The oversaturation of RPGs, longstanding titles that change very little, and of course the terrible attempts at reaching Western consumers certainly don't help much. There's really no reason for these developers (or publishers) to be so afraid of moving their products overseas, in fact there are a lot of great reasons to do so. The market is not only ready for Japan to take the lead again, they're almost begging for it. How do I figure? Allow me to explain. More »

Things Older Gamers Like To Moan About

Thu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 7:32 pm (EST) BY BEN GRIFFIN

The gaming world has changed: videogames come on small, shiny things called CD's. A small child thousands of miles away in Korea can whip your ass at Starcraft II. Resident Evil is now considered to have bad voice acting. HD graphics have rendered the outside world obsolete. Hardcore gamers love EA and hate Activision. Yes, sir, the world has changed, and you can either nobly roll with the punches and embrace the future or sit in your favourite comfy, moth-bitten chair and bitch, bitch, bitch. These are some of the topics in gaming today that make old people feel cold and frightened.

GamesCom: The Force Unleashed 2 Impressions

Thu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 6:23 pm (EST) BY DARRYL

The Force Unleashed was exactly what the Star War franchise needed, a game that finally let players, as the name suggested, unleash the Force in all its glory. The amount of power was just awesome, but everything is built to be surpassed, and that's exactly what LucasArts plan on doing with The Force Unleashed 2; a game which promises more bang for your buck. And boy does it look like it's going to achieve that. More »

GamesCom: Seth Killian Interview

Thu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 6:10 pm (EST) BY LEE BRADLEY

Aside from being the Capcom Community Manager, an all-round Street Fighter master and the guy who SFIV's boss was named after, Seth Killian is also one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. It was a pleasure then, to sit down in the relative calm of a hotel room just around the corner from the carnage that was GamesCom and chew the fat about everything from the pains of balancing, to generating "a giant storm of crap." Worms Reloaded Review

Thu, Sep 2nd, 2010, 5:48 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

The Worms series is pretty iconic in a way, being one of the few games to combine turn based strategy, team oriented gameplay, and Monty Python all in a single package. It's hard to tell how they got away with it, but they have, and the series has been chugging along ever since. Not without criticism of course. Since the first generation of Worms games, many have come down on the developers for a lack of creativity, or variety, in the recent additions. Enter the modern day, where Worms Reloaded has come out on Steam and people are turning a scrutinizing eye once again to see if the series is worth investing in. More »
