E3 2010 Preview: Tecmo KoeiMon, Jun 7th, 2010, 8:06 pm (EST) BY JORDAN DOUGLAS
Tecmo and Koei are both storied Japanese game publishers responsible for iconic franchises such as Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, and Dynasty Warriors. In 2009, the two companies announced plans to merge, which isn't as interesting as it may sound because nothing really changed. As for E3 2010, well, the publisher hasn't publicly released much information on its lineup at this point, allowing us to let our minds run wild with speculation. A new Ninja Gaiden? Dynasty Warriors? Quantum Theory on the show floor? It's all on the table. |

Again ReviewFri, Apr 2nd, 2010, 10:25 am (EST) BY DARRYLInnovation has been paramount with the DS since its inception back in 2004, but while there have been many triumphs, unfortunately there have been quite a few gimmicks too. Again is a game that uses the DS in a book fashion as its predecessor, Hotel Dusk, originally did. It created a whole new way to look at playing games on the DS. However, the thing with a story based games is that they ride a fine line between gimmick and innovation. With Hotel Dusk, this definitely seemed to be an interesting new format, but happening for the second time, can Again hold that same interest, or does the idea begin to wear thin? More » |

Dead or Alive: Paradise ReviewThu, Apr 1st, 2010, 4:17 pm (EST) BY DARRYLSomewhat often, quirky or weird games come along that cause many of us to do a double take when we first see them, sort of similar to how many people undeniably do a double take when passing a particularly pretty or handsome person on the street. Tecmo Koei have developed one of the very few games that's combined both of those circumstances, of whom's marketing run has caused many to perform the very rare, triple take, at least for us guys. That game (for lack of a better word) is Dead or Alive: Paradise for the PSP. Featuring plenty of eye candy relaxing on a tropical island, wearing next to nothing, with gameplay principally focused on starring at said eye candy, this isn't quite the game many people would be caught picking up. However, it is exactly the type of game certain shameless gamers will likely thoroughly enjoy. More » |

Dead or Alive: Paradise PreviewThu, Feb 25th, 2010, 5:14 pm (EST) BY NELSONDead or Alive, an unusually "exotic" beat-em up series by Team Ninja, makes its way onto the PlayStation Portable for the first time in the form of Dead of Alive: Paradise. Fret Nice ReviewWed, Feb 10th, 2010, 10:44 am (EST) BY DARRYLWhen Swedish developer Pieces Interactive formed in 2007, they set out to create unique games that would stand out in a crowd. Their second title, Fret Nice, for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, does indeed stand out from the crowd, being best described as a "platformer that loves music." However, in this case Pieces may have tried a little too hard to be different, with Fret Nice ending up being a game that sacrifices fun for inventiveness. More » |
