Pachter: Online Won't Stay Free For Long

Mon, Jul 26th, 2010, 1:43 pm (EST) BY COLIN

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said time and again that publishers will most certainly move to some form of online subscription model, making players pay to game online. He's previously mentioned that Activision would do so for their Call of Duty franchise, however that was debunked by both Treyarch and Infinity Ward. But what about an optional premium service? Pachter agrees that that's possibly the next potential step forward for the company. More »

Call of Duty: Black Ops Xbox Pre-E3 Conference Preview

Mon, Jun 14th, 2010, 2:27 pm (EST) BY KYLE WYNEN

Call of Duty: Black Ops has seemingly become Treyarch's chance to finally prove themselves to the game's industry, as the last two Call of Duty games they've produced have greatly lived in the shadow of those developed by Infinity Ward. With Infinity Ward quite possibly in shambles, at Microsoft's pre-E3 conference Activision took the chance to debut the first game of the conference, surprise, Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Kicking right into a trailer many of us have already seen before the conference was even properly introduced, Treyarch took the stage to demo the game for the first time. The demo wasn't overly long, starting with the player making their way into a tunnel in the jungles of Vietnam. Incase you forgot, or maybe didn't know, Call of Duty: Black Ops starts off in the 1970's war in Vietnam, and as such the tunnel packed a few surprises with North Vietnamese forces jumping out and stabbing American soldiers before the player could pick the assailants off. Will Medal of Honor Be Able To Topple Call of Duty?

Fri, May 21st, 2010, 7:19 pm (EST) BY ADAM MA

As the great Solid Snake once said, 'War has Changed.' Modern war at least, since the original release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare the face of console FPS gaming has shifted dramatically from it's infamous World War roots to a more high-tech playground. This isn't to say that 'modern day' shooters never really happened prior, or that Infinity Ward is single-handedly responsible for informing the teenagers everywhere about how an AC-130 works. But the genre has most definitely become more streamlined, and the action has taken a very different shape in the wake of CoD 4's success. The two most recent players? Treyarch and EA, both working hard to make sure that their respective series will wind up at the top of the sales charts. The real question is, which one deserves more attention, Medal of Honor or Call of Duty: Black Ops? More »

Call Of Duty Black Ops Teaser Trailer Analysis

Mon, May 3rd, 2010, 11:18 am (EST) BY JAMIE COURTS

Along with the official announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops, a teaser trailer also followed which gave clues as to the setting and sort of environments that will revolve around the new title in the series coming from Activision's Treyarch studio.

Black Ops appears to take place at some point during the Vietnam War, which means the series will be going back in time again, though back to the 60's or 70's rather than the 40's World War II era. Also judging by the secret labs and experimental warfare referenced in the trailer, this may be following the formation of the US Special Forces since the Green Berets were formed during the Vietnam War. Activision Plans Three New Call Of Duty Games In Two Years

Thu, Apr 22nd, 2010, 11:12 am (EST) BY JAMIE COURTS

According to Dan Amrich of the Activision blog, there will be at least three new Call of Duty games in the next two years. This doesn't really come as too much of a surprise, since it is Activision, but each of the three will be handled by different teams according to his statement.

Amrich had this to say on the upcoming titles, "As for COD, they’ve confirmed three games in the next two years. Seeing as how there is a pattern of one new COD game every year, this is one new COD game from one new developer, and in a different genre from the core games we’ve seen." More »

Rumour: Activision Details Call of Duty 7: Black Ops

Mon, Mar 29th, 2010, 8:57 am (EST) BY COLIN

It would appear that the next title in the Call of Duty franchise has been revealed. Dubbed as Call of Duty: Black Ops, the game is said to take gamers to different points in history from World War II, the Cold War and even more modern times.

Black Ops is said to be under development by Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty: World at War. The ever popular Zombie mode is making a return alongside dedicated servers, something that is sorely missed from the recent Modern Warfare 2 by Infinity Ward. More »
