E3 2010: Rift: Planes of Telara Preview

We had the opportunity to briefly check out Rift: Planes of Telara at last year's E3 (under the name Heroes of Telara) but this year, Trion Worlds had a much more... complete version to show us. Lots has changed in the game, so let’s take a brief overview of what we saw at this year's E3.

There are two factions in Rift, the Guardians and the Defiant. The Guardians were reborn by the Gods, and strive to rebuild the world as a holy place. The Defiant follow a more technology-oriented path, choosing to make their own destiny. Each faction has access to every type of class, though for certain classes factions must achieve a higher level in order to unlock them. The character creation system is pretty deep, letting players use a slider to mould their avatar's face, along with standard options for hair, gender, and the like. More »

There has been no shortage of Games Workshop properties making their way into the realm of video games recently, with Warhammer Online, Dawn of War II and now Blood Bowl all making their presence felt. However, Blood Bowl is slightly different to the other titles that were mentioned, as it's quite a niche title, focusing on what would happen if American Football were combined with the fantasy world of Warhammer. When most people talk about the MMORPG genre, it tends to be World of Warcraft that surfaces on the minds of the many as being the most recognised, not only by the gaming population but also by the mass including various celebrities who admit to playing said titles. Usually when we talk about MMORPGs in general they tend to be a commitment, as most gamers know that truly finishing one is an almost impossible task.
