Battlefield 3 Becomes EA's Fastest-Selling Game Ever
EA has confirmed Battlefield 3 has broken its previous week one sales records, shifting over five million copies in its opening week.
The news follows the new shooter's chart global chart success, with it yesterday being confirmed as robbing Batman: Arkham City of the hallowed UK Chart number one slot.
In its release EA also confirmed Chart Track's previous claim that Battlefield 3 had beaten the cumulative opening week sales of all 17 of its predecessors.
Despite suffering a slew of reported problems just after its launch, EA representatives cited the game's multiplayer offering as a key reason for Battlefield 3's success. "From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long -- we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3," commented Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of the EA Games Label.
"It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch
solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand."
