Bioshock 2 Void of LAN and Dedicated Servers

The good days of LAN parties won't be continuing into Bioshock 2, 2K Games has revealed, and neither will dedicated servers. The company posted a Q&A about the game's multiplayer, and when asked if LAN and dedicated servers will grace the game, developers simply said the "short answer [is], no and no. There is always a finite amount of time for the development of a game."

"Bringing Multiplayer to BioShock was a daunting task between the tech (there was no multiplayer support in the codebase from the first game) and the expectations of the community. Either you try to do everything and so nothing feels finished or you focus your efforts to do a smaller number of things really well like an accessible online experience," said developers 2K Marin.

Likely a disappointment for a number of enthusiasts, however the choice shouldn't impact the overall reception of the game much, if at all. For those unaware, LAN parties are like playing online multiplayer, except on a local network, usually in a room with a few friends on individual PCs or consoles.
