Develop 100 2009 List
Posted on 2009/05/11 by Darryl
This year's Develop 100 list has been published by Issuu and Blizzard Entertainment have ousted Nintendo be the most bankable studio in their 2009 list.
Although World of Warcraft launched in 2009, it has been a phenomenon and Blizzard Entertainment make well over $100m a month purely on collecting subscription fees. It's figures like these, as well as the launch of Wrath of the Lich King that helped Blizzard jump from 46th place, to 1st.
Nintendo, the company that previously held the top position, can do very little wrong right now. Even if they'd released no games in 2008, they would still be holding a very strong position purely because their older games, such as Brain Training, Nintendogs and Mario Kart DS continue to sell despite some of those titles being released in 2005. However, they couldn't compete with the might of Blizzard this year and slipped down from 1st to 2nd.
The full top 10 can be found below:
#1 Blizzard Entertainment
#2 Nintendo
#3 Rockstar North
#4 EA Canada
#5 Capcom
#6 Ubisoft Montreal
#7 Treyarch
#8 Infinity Ward
#9 Epic Games
#10 Bethesda Softworks
