Dark Void: Hands On

Dark Void is a brand new IP from Airtight Games, that's being published by Capcom. Having previously developed Crimson Skies for the original Xbox, Airtight decided that they'd apply their knowledge to of all things, a third person shooter.

After seeing that many games feature cover systems, Airtight decided to go one further and create a vertical cover system. While a conventional cover system is also in the game, the vertical cover system takes things to a whole new level and makes for some interesting gameplay.

There will also be a strong focus on flying, as Will, the protagonist, can use a Jet Pack to flying around some levels. He can also use it to Hover, which gives him a rather strong advantage over ground-based enemies. Where flying is concerned, the animations are absolutely fantastic and Airtight's experience with flying games really shows through.

However, the actual ground-based gameplay still looked a bit unrefined. Some of the weapons lacked noticeable punch and the difficulty varied. It's still in development though, so these kinks will more than likely be ironed out for the full release, which is scheduled for the end of this year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
