Dragon Quest Sticking To Its Traditional Roots

Front Mission Evolved is a new game from Square Enix, a spin-off from the Front Mission franchise. However, it's being developed by a Western developer, Double Helix, with the hope that it can try to penetrate the Western market more successfully.
However, Front Mission isn't the only franchise that Square Enix produce with a small following outside of Japan. Dragon Quest has a huge following and it is arguably more successful in japan than Final Fantasy. In the West it's almost a non-entity but according to Shinji Hashimoto, the Senior VP of Square Enix, they have no plans to change this.
Dragon Quest is like classical music, you can't touch it. It's like a Japanese tradition Toriyama-san has always had. So it's unlikely they will [try to make it targeted towards the west]. It's like Miso Soup, so good (laughs).
So, Dragon Quest looks like it will stay very Japanese focused.
