At this year's E3, Gaming Union had the opportunity to talk to one of Bethesda's most influential employees, Todd Howard. He has been heavily involved with the Elder Scrolls series, and more recently Fallout 3.
We spoke to him about Fallout 3, their decisions regarding the PlayStation 3 and the future expansion packs: Mothership Zeta and Point Lookout.
Gaming Union: One of the bigger announcements as of late, is the PS3 DLC, it's finally coming. Any reason you chose to announce that now?
Todd Howard: Because now we know it's actually going to exist. So, as soon we know, "ok, we’re going to do this", we can do it. Here’s the rough time frame, we want to tell everybody.
GU: Some of us have been waiting for it for a while on the PS3
TH: Yep, including us.
GU: Any reason why you chose to go with Microsoft for the DLC and Games for Windows Live, rather than your own client or Steam?
TH: The majority of our players are on the Xbox, and after Oblivion, people took to the DLC so strongly. We did a little bit on PS3, but the Xbox experience for downloading stuff and the people doing it are much more comfortable doing it and a lot of our audience is there. So, we did something different on the PC with Oblivion. So with [Fallout], we decided, let’s do it first this way through Microsoft and so it basically works the same on PC as it does on the Xbox. And once things were out, and it was as popular as it was, we started having time to start focusing on the PS3.
GU: With the upcoming expansion, Mothership Zeta. Is that going to be a large open area like Point Lookout, or is it going to be smaller?
TH: It's going to be smaller. Point Looking is probably the biggest one in terms of space. Zeta will be close in size to Anchorage as it all takes place on this alien mothership.
GU: Are either of the new expansions going to add on to the story like Broken Steel?
TH: No, we're going to treat them like big miscellaneous quests, kinda their own thing.
