E3 2012: EA Sports And The UFC Join Forces, THQ Gets Paid

In one of the more surprising announcements to come out of E3 2012 so far, EA and the UFC have agreed to terms on a multi-year licensing deal that will see John Riccitiello and Co. develop the next UFC Undisputed games. During EA's E3 2012 press conference, the company wheeled-out UFC President Dana White to unveil their new partnership. EA Sports will take over from the beleaguered THQ, which has gone through a series of financial struggles as of late.
This deal represents a seminal shift for the UFC in the gaming space, as Dana White viciously attacked EA in the past over their refusal to publish earlier entries in the mixed-martial arts series. The two parties seem to have buried the hatchet, which will no doubt signal the end of EA's own MMA spin-off.
Don't feel too bad for THQ in all of this - the company revealed it received an "undisclosed cash payment," in return for giving up the lucrative license before their contract expired.
