Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has confirmed that Ghostbusters: The Video Game will be a timed exclusive on the various PlayStation platforms this Summer in Europe.
Ghostbusters creator Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that the game is essentially Ghostbusters 3. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, writers of the original films, are writing the script and the game itself will be action-based, including various puzzles for the player to solve. Various characters and villians from the movies will make appearances throughout the game.
The release of the game had been in question after Vivendi had merged with Activison to form Activision Blizzard. The game was not included in the five franchises that would have survived from the merger on the Activision side. Atari revealed in late 2008 that they would be picking up the game.
The PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be released alongside the Sony Pictures Blu-ray release of the original film, with the PlayStation Portable versions being released sometime later. According to VideoGaming247, Atari has said they will be releasing the game on non-Sony platforms sometime later this year in Europe sometime after the PlayStation Portable version is released.
