GOTY 2011: Best Indie Developer Award

GOTY 2011: Best Indie Developer Award

Following on from our Best Publisher award, we're now going to take a look at the Best Indie Developer of 2011.

Indie games have been growing from strength to strength this year and here are the ten different studios/people that we thought were the pick of the bunch in 2011:

Mojang
Arrowhead Game Studio
Gaijin Games
Team Meat
Frozenbyte
Nicalis
Terry Cavanagh (VVVVVV)
Supergiant Games
Robot Entertainment
Hello Games

And the winner of Best Indie Developer 2011 is..... Supergiant Games!

Despite only having a small team, headed by former Editor-in-Chief of GameSpot US Greg Kasavin, Supergiant Games managed to release a fantastic game in Bastion on the Xbox Live Marketplace and later on the PC.

The game was praised for its seamless story-telling, but also its accessibility, sound and graphical qualities. Warner Bros. Interactive saw this a long time ago, hence their decision to publish the game and we can't wait to see what Supergiant Games have in store for us with their next project. Congrats guys!

It's also worth noting that the other developers on the list did fantastic jobs throughout the year - there are no losers here.
