Gran Turismo Portable Tops 1.8 Million Sales

Polyphony Digital, the creators of the Gran Turismo franchise, have announced that the recently released Gran Turismo on PlayStation Portable has managed to sell over 1.8 million units since its release.

The game has only been available since October 2009, but that hasn't stopped it becoming one of the best selling PSP games despite lukewarm reviews. Polyphony Digital also announced that Gran Turismo 5 "Prologue" has almost reached the 5 million sales mark worldwide - not exactly bad figures for what's essentially a glorified demo. Complete franchise sales can be viewed by clicking the source link.

The last major release on a home console came way back in 2005 in the form of Gran Turismo 4, and it looks like gamers might have to wait until the end of 2010 to play the next iteration in the franchise. Hopefully the wait is worth it.

GamingUnion.net are currently giving away a Nintendo Wii, along with Sky Crawlers and Ghost in the Shell on Blu-Ray. Visit the competition page to find out how you can win.

Those figures are as of December 2009 as well, so the sales are probably up to the 2 million mark now. :D

More than likely. If not, it certainly will soon.

Wow that\'s pretty impressive! I should try it out, although I\'ve never really been any good at GT games, heh.

These are shipment numbers. For example, GT Portable didn\'t even sell near 300,000 in Japan.

Wonder how many of those were given away from free in the UK with the PSP Go. Wouldn\'t count on many though, as that thing barely sells.

Ya, really wasted opportunity there. =(
