GU's Comments Of The Week - 21st August

Forums are fantastic places in which to openly discuss topics with both like minded people and those with differing viewpoints. Not only does this put our analytical skills to good use, but it can also open our minds to ways of thinking that we'd never thought about before. Of course, here on Gaming Union the vast majority of the threads posted over on our Community Forums are focused on Video Games and the industry, which rises many interesting conversations that last for pages with well written posts of several paragraphs (Geez, just take a look at the responses to our recent feature about Square Enix).

However, this week's COTW summary is dedicated to the sharp and snappy one liners. Boom.

This week, Nintendo revealed that it was releasing a new design of the Wii console, that looks to be the midway evolution between the Wii and the Wii U (and might I add, awesomely reminiscent of the late great NES). While most of the comments were focused on how moderately upset people felt about the fact that they could no longer play Gamecube media as it no longer supports backwards compatibility, metalsnakejuice had bigger fish to fry:

"I find it funny that this "family pack" only comes with one controller."

Good point. Nintendo's infallible plans are fallible once more.

Speaking of companies making blunders, Tetsuya Nomura of Square Enix recently told Famitsu that he was having to explain the story of Dream Drop Distance, the newest title in the Kingdom Hearts series, to Disney in small instalments so that they can follow the plot. While this came as no surprise to most KH fans, knowing how complex the story can be for even the most die-hard fan, a spoony bard just wanted to point out one thing:

"Well, it will still probably be less confusing than Metal Gear at least."

So... Nobodies are what now? Big Boss isn't... What?! *scratches head*

Meanwhile, over in the corner, EA and Activision are still continuing their little war of words whilst everyone else in the room tries to pretend they can't hear anything out of embarrassment. In support of Battlefield 3, EA's Jeff Brown said that their rival's IP Call of Duty will be old news, just like Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk. While this may be true, Aaron had another spin on it that rendered the conclusion somewhat different from what either EA or Activision were hoping for:

"It won't be Battlefield that takes down Call of Duty, it's going to be STARHAWK!!!!"

I'm not sure whether Sony Computer Entertainment would have anything they would want add to this brawl between publishers.

And that's it for this week's COTW. I think it truly shows that we can't get anything past you sly foxes because you'll always hit back with your ever ready wit. Keep up the entertainment and hard work everyone! Also to those of you who like to put a lot more thought into your posts, continue to expand our minds. For science (and/or great justice).
