Hirai: 3.8 Million PS3s Sold In December

Speaking at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Kaz Hirai, the president of SCE, told viewers that Sony managed to sell over 3.8 million PlayStation 3 consoles during December, with 1.7 million of those being sold in the United States.

This marks a 76 percent increase on the same period last year and it also signalled the biggest selling festive period since the PS3 launched back in 2006. However, it still puts them some way behind Nintendo's Wii console, which managed to sell 3 million in the United States alone.

The figures help to highlight the significance of the PS3 slim and the price drop, and Sony will look to continue this momentum into 2010.

GamingUnion.net are currently giving away a Nintendo Wii, along with Sky Crawlers and Ghost in the Shell on Blu-Ray. Visit the competition page to find out how you can win.
