iGame of the Week: The Incident

The Incident, from Big Bucket Software, is an addictive, retro jumper that tasks players with surviving against hordes of absurdly randomized objects falling from the sky. The controls are responsive and the premise is simple, making The Incident a great experience to come back to on any occasions.
In The Incident, players must avoid getting hit on the head by a seemingly endless barrage of deadly objects - heavy weights, couches, stone pillars, TVs, torpedos, guitars, and everything in between fall from above. Once an object has been dodged, it must be used as a stepping stone to higher ground before the pile consumes your tiny 8-bit character. The vertical levels quickly have a claustrophobic feel to them, reminiscent of Tetris. It's simple, frantic and above all fun.
The core controls consistent of tilting the iPhone to move left and right, and tapping the screen to jump. Both actions feel very responsive, especially considering the adjustable sensitivity settings. In addition, players can collect upgrades throughout the levels which increase health and provide a bubble power that allows players to escape tight situations by shaking the screen.
This vertical scroller features a retro art style and soundtrack that suites the ridiculous premise perfectly. The cartoon, 8-bit environments and catchy arcade music give the game a great deal of personality.
The Incident is a fun, addictive arcade experience that is ideal for quick play sessions at the heart of mobile gaming. The wide variety of objects that constantly fall from the sky help the game stay fresh, the controls are responsive and easy to pick up, and the retro presentation really compliments the mechanics. It's a great package at a discount price.
