iPhone Game of the Week: Geared

Geared, developed by Bryan Mitchell, is a puzzle game that requires some clever clockwork in order to turn gears - in other words, it’s a watchmaker’s fantasy. For less than the price of a Big Mac players get an addictive puzzler complete with 120 levels, and community boards that will keep you coming back for a long time.
Players progress through the game by finding the right combination of gears that make all of the blue gears turn. Each level starts off with one spinning gear that must be connected to a series of motionless blue gears; this is achieved by strategically placing different gears, which come in five sizes, and creating a chain. The game starts off very easy but gradually introduces new elements such as ‘no drop zones’ (areas where gears can’t be directly placed) and multiple blue gears which increase the challenge.
As mentioned above, Geared features 120 levels so there is a ton of content in this package. By the time players have reached the mid 40s, each level requires quite a bit of thought and experimentation to complete. Fortunately, if you get stuck on one particular level the game has a number of options which elevate the frustration; a level select feature allows you to skip uncompleted levels or players can hit the in-game community boards which allow users to share solutions to the puzzles. This functionality will keep a large portion of casual players engaged who would have otherwise stopped playing the game.
Geared is a great puzzle game that features simple, addictive mechanics that are perfectly suited to mobile gaming. The large selection of levels and community features make it an absolute steal at 99 cents. Fans of puzzle games should definitely check this one out.
